Gwynedd 2019 – ongoing
Gwynedd is a county in North Wales whose rich industry, past and present, punctuates the natural landscape with an eclectic range of architecture.
In the heart of Snowdonia, the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is dominated by man-made mountains of waste slate and is overlooked by Llyn Stwlan, the UK’s first pump storage hydroelectric dam commissioned in 1963. Sir Basil Spence’s now decommissioned nuclear power station resides in Trawsfynydd and the coastal town of Harlech has a skyline consisting of a medieval castle, a brutalist theatre and a derelict tower block overlooking a links golf course aside the Irish sea.
